Việt Nam will be part of The Hague Agreement for the International Registration of Industrial Designs, which allows Vietnamese industrial designs to be protected in multiple countries, in the next three months.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Minister Chu Ngọc Anh has deposited an instrument of accession to the Geneva Act (1999) of The Hague Agreement with Director of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Francis Gurry at the WIPO’s headquarters in Switzerland.

The agreement will officially come into force for Việt Nam three months from the day of deposition.

Minister Ngọc Anh said the system enables a business to register industrial designs in multiple countries through the filing of one single application to the WIPO’s International Bureau.

Ambassador Dương Chí Dũng, head of Việt Nam's permanent mission in Geneva, chaired the event. This is the second year Dũng has been honoured to take the presidency of the WIPO General Assembly. — VNS
