VARANS Director General Vuong Huu Tan and US. NRC Chairman Allison McFarlane has signed an agreement to extend the cooperation on exchange of technical information and cooperation in the field of nuclear safety.
On 25 June 2008, VARANS and U.S. NRC had signed the agreement that was valid for a period of 5 years. During that time, two sides had developed many practical, efficient co-operation activities and achieved positive results contributing to strengthening nuclear safety capabilities of the regulatory body of Vietnam.
This extended agreement continue to focus on cooperation on exchange of technical information and cooperation in the development of joint programs/projects of nuclear safety research and training for the regulatory body.
On the same day, Director General Vuong Huu Tan and Mr. Brian W. Sheron, Director of the U.S. NRCs Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the framework of the Thermal-Hydraulic Code Applications and Maintenance Program (CAMP). Accordingly, the US.NRC will provide to VARANS 4 calculation programs including TRACE, RELAP5, SNAP và PARCS as well as related documents for safety assessment for nuclear power plants and research reactors and for assisting VARANS to prepare safety analysis and assessment capabilities.
