Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Hitachi

Participating in the signing ceremony were Mr. Hoàng Xuân Hoà, GE Hitachi’s Technical Director; Mr. Douglas O’Neil, representative from the US Embassy in Vietnam; representatives from VARANS and from departments/divisions under VARANS.

Delivering a speech in the signing ceremony, Director Vương Hữu Tấn stated this was a big event of nuclear cooperation between Vietnam and the US after the Agreement 123 was signed. Over the past time, the cooperation between the two countries has achievedremarkable results. The US has supported Vietnam in developing the legal framework, training human resources and strengthening capacities of nuclear safety, security and inspection. The Director emphasized that Vietnam has been carrying out the construction of the first nuclear power plant, as one nuclear legal agency, VARANS hoped to receive cooperation and support from international partners in capacity building to fulfil its roles and responsibilities in the national nuclear power developmentprogram.

This signed MOU would create the legal basis for cooperation between VARANS and GE Hitachi in order to promote more cooperation activities in the future.

According to the signed MoU, GE Hitachi would support VARANS in sharing practical experience in the field of nuclear safety analysis using advanced calculation code emulations, providing training course on reactor pile technology and other related issues in order to improve capacities on nuclear safety analysis and assessment for VARANS’ staff.
