Deputy Minister Chu Ngoc Anh met and worked with Deputy General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization

On November 02, 2011, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Chu Ngoc Anh had a meeting and working session with Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama –Deputy General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

In the meeting, Deputy Minister Chu Ngoc Anh expressed that so far WIPO has been the first and most important partner in international cooperation in terms of Vietnam’s intellectual property field (IP). WIPO has provided timely support for Vietnam relating to policy and law formulation, capacity building and modernization of IP management agency, human resource training, awareness raising for the public on IP. The Deputy Minister emphasized that WIPO’s assistance has significant meaning, contributing an important part to the improvement and development of Vietnam’s IP system.

With Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama’s assessment and suggestion, the two parties discussed and agreed on the basis of results of good cooperative relations between Vietnam and WIPO as well as development orientations of Vietnam’s IP and of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP). For the coming time, it should be coordinated and focused in 5 specific fields as follows:

- Continuing to organize high-level delegations to visit each other as well as to participate in important events in order to improve the image of each party;

- Continuing to develop traditional cooperation fields which have gained important milestones and results;

- WIPO will support Vietnam to formulate and successful the National Strategy for IP in order to make IP to become an efficient tool for S&T, economic-social and cultural development;

- Continuing to support NOIP to successfully develop the Center for Intellectual Property Development located in Hoa Lac High Tech Park;

- Supporting Vietnam to effectively participate in projects under WIPO’s Development Program, including project on Accessing patent database, training on IP, transferring technologies, developing product trademarks, improving capacities in using S&T information,…

Deputy Minister Chu Ngoc Anh thanked for the consideration and support of WIPO’s leaders for cooperation with MOST over the past time. The Deputy Minister believed through 5 above-mentioned coordinating points, WIPO and MOST would have new steps in S&T cooperation.

Also in the meeting, Mr. Ta Quang Minh, NOIP’s Director and Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, WIPO’s Deputy General Director signed the Minute of the Cooperation Agreement for the coming time.
