Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea on cooperation in fields of standardization, technical specifications, metrology, conformity assessment, codes and bar codes

With that spirit, in order to strengthen specific cooperation between the two parties for the coming time, on March 02, 2016, in Ha Noi, the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) and the Korea Trade – Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of standardization, technical regulations, metrology, conformity assessment and codes, barcodes

Attending the signing ceremony were Mr. Tran Van Vinh - STAMEQ’s General Director, Mr. Jaehong Kim - KOTRA’s President, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Korean Ambassador in Vietnam and representatives from relevant agencies of the two countries.

Founded in 1962, KOTRA is a government agency of Korea, which has been managed as a State-owned agency to promote trade, business and investment abroad, provide research and development activities and support to partners all over the world.

According to the MOU, the two parties agreed to cooperate and implement joint activities in the field of standardization, metrology, technical regulations, conformity assessment and codes, bar codes for purposes of strengthening technical innovations and common understanding of regulations to promote business and trade between the two parties.

Within the morning of the same day, the open ceremony of Vietnam-Korea FTA Support Center was organized. The established Center aims to promote the content of the Vietnam-Korea FTA (officially takes effect from 20/12/2015) and support businesses of the two countries to take advantages of the newly signed FTA, which help increase in trade volumes and investments between Viet Nam and Korea. Within the context that the global economy has witnessed a decline in the growth rate over the past years, causing a decrease in exports of businesses, Mr. Kim Jae Hong - KOTRA’s President said “the Vietnam-Korea Support Center is expected to help businesses to flexibly apply the Vietnam-Korea FTA in order to boost up exports of the businesses to markets of China, the US and the EU, which are already in the economic downturn over the past time.”

In an interview outside the ceremony, Tran Van Vinh - STAMEQ’s General Director said "In cases Vietnamese businesses which want to export goods to Korea are welcomed to contact and provide necessary information to STAMEQ. Then the Directorate will provide support, create favorable conditions and clarify requirements in Korea, based on which businesses would have access to necessary information to minimize time and costs and wouldn’t be faced with difficulties when exporting goods to Korea. "
