Promoting S&T Cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom

Participating in the working session were the UK’s Ambassador in Vietnam, Mr.Giles Lever and leaders of relevant agencies under Ministry of Science and Technology. In the working session, the two sides discussed on the implementation of bilateralcooperation programs as well as cooperation directions in the future.

Deputy Minister Trần Quốc Khánh said that Vietnam has been in the stage of promoting innovation activities. One of policies Vietnam needs to promote is the development of S&T enterprises, link research institutes, universities with S&T enterprises. The Deputy Minister hoped that MOST would coordinate with Newton Fund, contributing to promote this activity.

Mr. Robin Grimes said that the UK’s side has always paid attention to ways of bringing in research results into practice, linking research with enterprise, promoting innovation. The application of research results to have innovation solutions would help the two countries to be prosperous in the future. The UK’s side hoped to cooperate with Vietnam in the innovation field.

Ambassador Giles Lever highly appreciated the cooperation between MOST and Ambassador of the United Kingdom on Newton Fund and the cooperation in other fields. Objectives of the United Kingdome for the coming time are to promote reliable cooperative relations in new fields appropriate with Vietnam’s development level and prosperity, not only in assistance field. Accordingly, new cooperation fields that will be focused are investment trade, defense, educationand training, science and innovation. The Ambassador affirmed that he would do his best in his term to promote successful cooperation with Vietnam in fields of science and innovation. At the same time, Ambassador Giles Lever expressed his hope that the Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides would be signed for the coming time.

Deputy Minister Trần Quốc Khánh affirmed that S&T cooperation between the UK and Vietnam have developed for many years, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding would promote S&T cooperative relations between the two countries to be more developed. The Deputy Minister hoped to have more cooperation opportunities with the UK for the coming time.
