This is one of the topics for discussions presented by the Global Research Alliance (GRA) in the meeting of the Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Hoàng Văn Phong with some members of this organization on May 27, 2011.

GRA is an Alliance consisting of 9 research and development organizations in the world with the number of more than 60,000 scientists from various fields. The key tasks of GRA are commitment on S&T promotion, innovation for the sustainable development, contribution for the equal development in terms of economic and social aspects. The main objective is to look for technology solutions in order to contribute solving global challenges and difficulties.

In the meeting, Mr. Ramesh Mashelkar – GRA’s President mentioned some achieved results in the regional Workshop on technologies and experience in renovation – innovation towards low-income people organized by the World Bank in coordination with GRA on May 25 in Hanoi. The GRA’s President said that although Vietnam has gained very impressive achievements in hunger elimination poverty reduction, the rate of poor people is rather high in comparison of that of some developing countries. Therefore, Vietnam’s innovation system should move towards low-income people and GRA is willing to cooperate with Vietnam in this field.

Minister Hoàng Văn Phong highly appreciated ideas proposed by GRA as well as results from direct working sessions of GRA with some Vietnamese partners (Vietnam S&T Institute, Hanoi Polytechnique University…) on this issue. The Minister expressed his desires in the future Vietnam would become a member of GRA not only to receive but also share knowledge and experience in innovation with many countries in the world.
