Attending the meeting, on the EC side were Mr. Mark Hulmas – EC’s representative, Ms. Selma Kus – Project Director, Mr. Jorge Tirira – Technical Director and Leaders of Project’s tasks. On the Vietnamese side were VARANS’ Director Vương Hữu Tấn, VARANS’ Deputy Director Lê Quang Hiệp, representatives from some relevant agencies under MOST, and leaders of Project’s tasks.

The purpose of the meeting was to review results and benefits gained from the Project for Vietnam’s nuclear regulation agency (VARANS) during the early stage of nuclear power development in Vietnam.

Delivering a speech in the Wrap-up meeting, Director Vương Hữu Tấn expressed his sincere thanks to EC’s support provided to VANRANS, especially in this project. The Director highly appreciate results achieved in this Project, which have contributed to improve capacities of Vietnam’s nuclear regulation agency and support Vietnam to improve the national infrastructure on nuclear regulation for the nuclear power program. The Director also expressed his desires to continue receiving EC’s support for the early stage of nuclear power development.

The meeting has reviewed results and benefits for VARANTS in the 4 Project’s tasks presented by the Leaders:

1. Task1: Supporting to improve the legal framework on nuclear safety for Vietnam.

2. Task 2: Establishing a system to ensure the quality of assessing and appraising safety and legal inspection.

3. Task 3: Improving national capacities of independent assessment and appraisal on safety.

4. Task 4: Working out the plan on human resource development and training program of the regulation agency.

Project VN3.01/09 between EC and VARANS started the implementation from January 2012 to March 2015 with purposes to support the Agency to establish the nuclear legal framework, strengthenmanagement and technical capacities, transfer to the AgencyEuropean knowledgeon nuclear management, including measures to urgently response to nuclear incidents, support the Agency to work out the plan on human resource development and training program and support the development of public information. During the 3-year project implementation, the two sides coordinated to organize 27 workshops and training courses for more than 500 batches of officials and 9 missions in and out for 22 officials to study from 1 to 5 weeks in European countries including Germany, France, Finland, Belgium./.
