Vietnam– Australia: Promoting S&T Cooperation

On September 28, 2016, in Hanoi, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh had a meeting with Mr. Craig Chittick, Australia’ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam.

Minister Chu Ngoc Anh welcomed Mr. Craig Chittick who has officially appointed as Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, at the same time highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries over the past time, especially in the S&T field. The Minister reviewed cooperation activities between Vietnam and Australia as activities set out in the protocol between the two countries; cooperation in health field (including aid projects funded by Australian government, aid projects funded by non-governmental organizations, direct cooperation among health organizations of the two countries …..); cooperation in the agriculture field.

The Minister also emphasized some relevant cooperation fields as Intellectual Property, Metrology, Standards, Certification, Productivity, and Quality…. S&T cooperation activities have contributed to the social and economic development cause of the two countries. At the same time, the Minister mentioned the governmental Agreement on S&T between the two countries signed in Australia in 2013. “This is the legal framework and basic favorable environment for S&T cooperation of each country”, the Minister said.

Together with good cooperation achievements between the two countries over the past time, in the meeting, the Minister hoped that in his new term, MOST would continue receiving support from the Ambassador for the coming time.

Ambassador Craig Chittick expressed his pleasure about results achieved in the S&T cooperation between the two nations and committed to continue supporting Vietnam with Innovation. This is one of three pillars in the extended comprehensive partnership relations agreed between the two countries (Safety, security; Economy; Innovation). According to the Ambassador, the Australian Government has paid special attention to innovation in Australia’s National Strategy for Innovation and Science 2016 and Vietnam is one of 17 nations prioritized for cooperation.

In the friendly and mutual reliable atmosphere, the two parties also discussed and exchanged some contents expected to be implemented for the coming time as Human resource training; Innovation; Cooperation among research institutes/universities/businesses… in order to strengthen more S&T cooperation between the two nations.
