Innovation and S&T development are major drivers of Hanoi’s socio-economic development, says Politburo member

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue has affirmed that innovation and science and technology (S&T) development are leading tasks acting as a major driving force of Hanoi’s socio-economic development.

Politburo member Hue made the statement at the Capital Innovative Startup Festival entitled “ASEAN Investment Digitalisation”, which took place November 25 with the participation of more than 3,000 local students, 23 leading corporations in the region and 154 investment funds.

“Hanoi is striving to become a leading centre for scientific research, technology development and innovation in the country, towards becoming a leading S&T hub in Southeast Asia regarding several special areas in innovative start-up,” he said.

Hue stated that to realise this goal, Hanoi will establish and develop the Open Innovation Platform to strengthen research infrastructure connections between S&T organisations and businesses to create an environment for developing and testing new technologies.

Particularly, Hanoi will develop the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park into a technology research & development and innovation centre of the capital and the country, he emphasised.

During the start-up festival, the organisers launched venture investment platform Trekkrs.Asia and announced investment connection for ASEAN’s innovative start-up firms with a total capital of US$1.7 billion. Investment funds and representatives of Hanoi-based universities also inked a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Capital Ventures Network aimed at incubating and realising youth-led innovation initiatives.

Within the framework of the event, the finals of the VinaCapital Ventures VietChallenge innovative start-up contest (V3 Track 2020) took place with competition between the region’s five most powerful start-ups and VietChallenge 2020 champion CricketOne. The overall championship, worth US$45,000, was awarded to VIoT with the initiative “Lighting management and connection platform for urban areas and industrial zones”.
