Mr. Silvera Board shared in addition to traditional support ways before, for the coming time the US party desired to support Vietnam with education development and S&T. VEF was having a plan to establish universities in Vietnam according to the US education models. Through VEF, the US party would receive post graduates and experts from Vietnam to study and train in the US. In the future, they would be Vietnam’s important staff source in providing training for next generations for the country’s development.
Minister Nguyễn Quân said that Vietnam has currently lacked strong research units as compared with those of the region and the world. Whereas linkages among universities and research institutes were still limited, especially with S&T enterprises. The current scientific research, investment and development were only in research institutes and centers,… while there wasn’t significant investment in universities. Meanwhile in the US, most of inventions and patents of S&T have been originated from centers under universities. Through that the establishment of S&T research – oriented universities in Vietnam would contribute to solve above-mentioned limits.
According to Ms. Lynne McNamara, VEF’s Executive Director, in addition to support provided to Vietnam in terms of scholarships, scholars and sending US experts to Vietnam, VEF would continue support Vietnam to have access to loan source from foreign countries as World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF),… In addition, she also proposed MOST to participate with VEF in recruiting the most outstanding candidates who would be selected from Vietnam’s leading universities with selection VEF’s criteria.
When the working concluded, Minister Nguyễn Quân highly appreciated support and assistance of the US Government over the past time, especially emphasized on the good relations between the two counties in recent time. Through VEF, for the coming time Vietnam would want to receive support from the US Government to help Vietnam to establish Research Institute as KIST (South Korea).
