The overview of the Workshop


Participating in the Workshop were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, concurrently Director of NOIP Trần Việt Thanh; INPI’s Director, Mr. Yves Lapierre; NOIP’s Deputy Director Lê Ngọc Lâm; Chief of Strategy and International Cooperation (INPI) and more than 50 participants from universities, research institutes and businesses of Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam.

Delivering a speech in the Workshop, Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh said that knowledge and innovation have played important roles for the economic development currently. Therefore, it was necessary to promote investment on research and development (R&D) activities, including high-quality human resource training. Currently the relationship between universities and businesses has always been an important topic, especially in business and research environments.

“Businesses have visions for their work while universities and research institutes can contribute and share about methodologies as well as professional fields”. The Deputy Minister said.

Also according to Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh, universities and research institutes focus on educating and creating new knowledge and technology know-how; while businesses focus on competition in the market to get profits. Therefore, when they cooperate with each other, businesses want to have innovation, new technologies, valuable knowledge as well as breakthrough solutions. At the same time, universities and research institutes hope their students will have practical experience and practice their skills from hand-on training. “Therefore, investment from the two sides should be made appropriate before they can benefit”, The Deputy Minister shared more.

Within the framework of the Workshop, the participants discussed together, shared experiences and solutions appropriate for different national contexts originating from activities of individuals, organizations, businesses… through some presentations on supporting mechanisms and tools as a bridge among universities, research institutes and businesses in innovation and technology transfer; experience shared by experts from France in management and promotion of innovation and intellectual property in universities, research institutes and businesses; preparation of work plans, assessment, valuation and marketing of technologies for technology commercialization and transfer; transfer of technologies, types of contracts, contract terms and issues often arising …
