From 18 to 20 December 2012, in the framework of the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA), Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) hosted the Workshop on Nuclear security and safeguards project. Director General of VARANS...

Participants of the Workshop are representatives of Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, China, Kazaskhtan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Korea, The Philippines and Vietnam.

In his opening speech, DG Vuong Huu Tan said, currently Vietnam is focused on preparing the infrastructure needed for the safe and secure implementation of nuclear power, including the necessary laws and regulations, capacity-building for regulatory body, appropriate technical support organizations. He also emphasized, VN work earnestly to demonstrate our support and commitment to important nuclear security and non-proliferation issues. In April 2010, VN announced its support to the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, and joined the Convention on Nuclear Safety. In September 2012, VN acceded to the Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, and ratified the Amendment of this Convention and the Additional Protocol.

He also shared, the important issues of nuclear security and safeguards, nuclear non-proliferation discussed at this Workshop are critical to ensuring international confidence in current and future nuclear power programs.

During 3 days of the Workshop, representatives of the countries presented their country reports on nuclear security and safeguards with experience and good practices shared. Sessions focused on nuclear security, safeguards and capacity building for nuclear security and safeguards.
