2016 Nuclear Industry Summit attracted hundreds of leaders of the world’s nuclear industry to discuss results achieved by the world’s nuclear industry from previous Nuclear Industry Summits. This Summit was focused on following topics:
1. Security in usage, storage and transportation of radiations and nuclear materials at strategic level.
2. Management of network security threats.
3. Roles of the world’s nuclear industry.
Leaders from more than 50 countries and 4 international organizations paid attention to prevention of nuclear terrorism in the world attended 2016 Nuclear Security Summit from March 31 to April 1, 2016 in Washington Conference Center.
On March 31, 2016 took place the Awarding Ceremony for individuals, groups and nations which have significant contributions to the cause of atomic development for peaceful purposes in the world.
Viet Nam has been awarded by the Summit’s Organizing Committee with the prize of “Atom for peaceful purposes” due to its contributions to the successful implementation of the Program on shifting nuclear materials of Đà Lạt Nuclear Reaction Pile from highly enriched uranium (HEU) into low enriched uranium (LEU). So far all highly enriched materials unused and used of Đà Lạt Nuclear Reaction Pile have been returned to the Russian Federation. This is Viet Nam’s political commitment on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons which is highly appreciated by the international community and would create conditions for promoting usage of atomic energy for our country’s social and economic development.
The prize awarded to Viet Nam today has showed recognition and high appreciation of the international community to the commitment of Viet Nam’s Government on ensuring safety, security and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in atomic energy usage.
Also awarded this prize together with Viet Nam were Brazil, Chile, Czech, Denmark, Gruzia, Hungary, Korea, Mexico, Philippine, Rumania, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngọc Anh, on behalf of Viet Nam’s Government, received the prize from the Organizing Committee. In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded some types of prizes for contributions of individuals and organizations in the development of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
