Delivering a speech in the working session, Deputy Minister Chu Ngoc Anh highly appreciated AIST’s activeness in finding directions for cooperation expansion with MOST. With the group of high-level scientists and modern application research units, it is hoped that AIST would have practice contributions to Vietnam’s S&T development.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that MOST has been ready to continue supporting cooperation activities with agencies under AIST, as well as Vietnam’s universities and research units in fields which AIST has strengths and its research focuses in prioritized S&T fields of Vietnam and of MOST. The Deputy Minister proposed AIST review possibilities to participate in the R&D area of Hoa Lac High Tech Park and assigned the National Center for Technological Progress and Department of International Cooperation the focal point of MOST to actively discuss to develop specific cooperation program.

Mr. Masakazu YAMAZAKI also said that fields of life science, biology technology, especially fields of natural disaster prevention, risk assessment have been of Japan’s strengths and can be cooperated with Vietnam. For the coming time, one of issues AIST as well as Japan has paid attention is to strengthen more S&T cooperation with Asian countries, including with Vietnam. It is hoped that cooperation between the two parties would be developed more in a better manner, contributing to the S&T development of Vietnam and Japan.

It is known that AIST is one of Japan’s leading research institute (under the Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry - METI) with research activities focused on 6 fields as Environment and energy; Life science and Biology technology; Information technology and Electronics; Nano technology, Materials and Engineering; Metrology, Geodesy and Geology survey, Applied Geology science.

AIST’s main counterpart in Vietnam is currently Vietnam Agency for Science and Technology (VAST), AIST has had key cooperation activities in fields as Environment technology: treating waste water, collecting precious metals from wastes; Living mass and costal management: producing biological fuels from living mass, using marine living mass natural resources; GEO network and information technology: systems of products piloted from GEO network, information technology.
