Minister Nguyen Quan met Philippines’ Minister of Science and Technology
In the meeting, the two parties shared cooperation opportunities in fields of climate change and energy security. Minister Nguyen Quan said issues to which Vietnam has currently paid attention included exchange strengthening, technology transfer in response to climate change, post-harvest technology (especially rice and other food); cooperation in research on marine and aqual-culture; S&T information system in general and information of tropical storms in particular.
Philippines’ Minister of Science and Technology Mario G. Montejo expressed his consensus with ideas of Minister Nguyen Quan. At the same time, Mr. Mario G. Montejo said that Philippines would be willing to cooperate with Vietnam to solve issues of climate change and energy security. Philippines has had many technologies in this field as well as could share with Vietnam about early advisory system on earthquake and tsunami.
Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology and Philippines’ Minister of Science and Technology agreed to establish the Joint Working Group between the two countries, often discuss, provide timely support so that the cooperation would be better. The two parties agreed to organize the Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology every two year in turn and the first session is expected to be organized in Vietnam in 2012.
In 1996, the Government of Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of Republic of Philippines signed the Cooperation Agreement on S&T.
On ASEAN multi-lateral cooperation forum, Vietnam and Philippines are the two counties which co-launch the initiative of climate change and development of prioritized implementation program in ASEAN.
In the 6th session of Vietnam – Philippines Committee for Bilateral Cooperation organized in October 2011in Hanoi, the content of Vietnam – Philippines Cooperation in S&T has been re-affirmed in the agreement minute between the two Governments and it is allowed to promote the establishment of the negotiation working group for the Agreementimplementation. |
