Regional Forum on Cooperative Relations between universities and enterprisesin order to promote technology transfer

Participating in the Forum were Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama –WIPO’s Deputy General Director; Mr. Ta Quang Minh–NOIP’s Director; Mr. Shunichi Doi –JPO’s Head of Patent Assessment Committee No. 2 together with more than 10 lecturers of WIPO, Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore and Vietnam.

According to Director Ta Quang Minh, the objective of the Forum was to identify challenges in establishment and management of technology transfer mechanism; study cooperative models between universities and enterprises in technology transfer; provide opportunities for policy-makers, IP managers of universities and research organizations to find necessary measures in order to promote technology transfer from universities to enterprises, especially green technology.

In the Forum, participants from more than 10 countries in the region would exchange, discuss about relations between IP and technology innovation, mention IP’s roles in promoting patents and innovation; policies of Japan and Vietnam on using IP as a tool to promote technology innovation and transfer between universities and enterprises; mention the importance of technology management in universities and research organizations; the establishment of Technology Transfer Office (TLO); technology commercialization process; methods of technology commercialization;

Especially the Forum mentioned opportunities, challenges and successful stories about technologytransfer; cross-border cooperation between universities and industries; initiatives in order to promote transfer of environment-friendly technology.

On this occasion, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama –WIPO’s Deputy General Director would visit and worked with some Vietnam’s relevant agencies, specifically havingcourtesy meeting with leaders of Ministry of Science and Technology, of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, working with NOIP, visiting and workingwith Hoa Lac High Tech Park (when NOIP’s Reception Section is located).
