In the meeting Mr. Lee Jeong Hyop, MEST’s expert on S&T development policy said that in 1950, when the country was in war, South Korea was a poor country and S&T was not developed. 50 years after the war South Korea has developed thanks to investment in S&T and education. Especially the popularization of S&T for people has created South Korea’s success as today.
“South Korea has currently had more than 50 million of people, in term of commerce, South Korean has ranked the 6th in the world. Currently, South Korea’s S&T has developed very much so we hope to have valuable experience appropriate with Vietnam. South Korea will expand cooperation with Vietnam in S&T for the period from 2011to 2015”, Mr. Lee Jeong Hyop said.
Before, in 2004, Vietnam and South Korea had closed and efficient cooperation in terms of information technology in education field. Mr. Lee Jeong Hyop expressed his hope that the delegation’s visit and working trip would open opportunities so that the two countries could become important partners in S&T cooperation in the future.
Mr. Bae Seong Geun, MEST’s Director of the Department of International Cooperation affirmed that Vietnam is a highly populated country with abundant natural resources, this is an important factor in cooperation between the two countries. Currently South Korean’s Government as well as companies have always considered as their development partner in S&T field.
Mr. Bae Seong Geun also shared South Korea’s South Korea’s experience in S&T development after the war (including S&T development policies; remarkable economic growth; advanced S&T policies; R&D strategies which can catch up with renovation… ). At the same time, Mr. Bae Seong Geun also said S&T tasks would be given priority by South Korean Government to be developed for the coming time as policy system would be focused for development, human resource be developed and cooperation in S&T promoted with countries in the world.
