In the meeting, Mr. Alain Delmestre reported to the Deputy Minister on working results of the mission with Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) on information and advocacy and human resource training over the past week. He also expressed his hope to share experience with Vietnam and his willingness to support Vietnam’s nuclear legal agency in human resource training and develop an effective advocacy program for the nuclear power development program.

Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh highly appreciated EC’s support to Vietnam through the Program on Capacity Building for VARANS and experience shared from countries with developed nuclear power industry as France, especially regarding the development of a national nuclear legal agency. The Deputy Minister emphasized that during the preparation stage of the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam, the Government has paid special attention to human resource training for the nuclear regulation agency and had a development roadmap for a nuclear regulation agency, which is independent and capable of ensuring safety of nuclear power plants.
