The purpose of this mission was to review results of S&T cooperation achieved between the two countries over the past time; at the same time exchanged and discussed cooperation plans for the coming time, especially on preparation contents for 2017 - 40th anniversary of signing the Cooperation Friendship Agreement and 55th of establishment of Vietnam – Laos diplomatic relations.

Discussing about the bilateral relations in the meeting with Laos’ Minister of Science and Technology, the two partied were happy to see cooperation relations in the S&T field between the two counties have been developed more. The two Ministers highly appreciated the two parties have closed coordinated to well implement key cooperation contents in the S&T field mentioned in the Agreement on Cooperation Plan between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos in 2016 and actively prepared for cooperation activities for the coming period of 2017 to 2018. The two Ministers agreed that the two parties would continue the implementation focused on key cooperation S&T directions for the period of 2017 to 2018, especially on preparation contents for 2017 - 40th anniversary of signing the Cooperation Friendship Agreement and 55th of establishment of Vietnam – Laos diplomatic relations.
In this visit, in the office of the Prime Minister’s Palace, Prime Minister of Lao DPR Thongloun Sisoulith spent time to meet with the mission. In the meeting, the Prime Minister highly appreciated results of cooperation results between the two Ministries of Science and Technology over the past time. The Prime Minister also proposed the two Ministries to continue sharing experience in the State management of S&T activities.
In addition, the Mission paid a visit and worked in the construction site of the Project on building Laos’ Training Center for S&T managers. This is the Project funded ODA from the Government of Vietnam for the Government of Laos. The Project has the long-term strategy in order to strengthen the S&T infrastructure and human resources for Laos. After the Project is completed, Laos’ Ministry of Science and Technology can actively organize professional training courses to continuously improve the quality and professional knowledge of S&T staff. According to the set progress, the project would be completed and put into operation by the end of 2017.

The mission also attended the Inauguration Ceremony of the Research and Development Laboratory of clean technologies. This is a cooperation project funded by Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology to support Laos to set up a laboratory with basic equipment for researches on clean technologies.
