Participating in the working session with the mission were relevant representative leaders and officials of VARANS, Department of, Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission for (VAEC), Legislation Department of MOST, Ministry of Justice and Office of the Steering Committee for Ninh Thuận Nuclear Power Project.
In the meeting, Deputy Minister Lê Đình Tiến expressed his sincere thanks for IAEA’s support to Vietnam in activities of AE use for peaceful purposes. The Deputy Ministry emphasized in the national program on nuclear power development, the development of the legal framework has currently been one of the first priorities. The Law on AE issued in 2008 was developed based on IAEA’s standards and guidelines with reference to countries and review of appropriateness of other Vietnamese laws. During the course of implementation process, many issues would need to be adjusted more appropriate with international rules and domestic practical conditions.
Mr. Abdelmadjid Cherf, senior office of IAEA’s legal office, recognized that Vietnam has had an active nuclear power program and IAEA has always ready to cooperate with Vietnam, in which support for the development of the legal framework is an important priority. He also hoped to bring in the best legal support, assisting Vietnam with amending and supplementing the Law on AE.
During one-week working time, IAEA’s law experts and Vietnamese colleagues together reviewed and discussed in details on some articles on the Law on AE. Comments and feedback of experts have been recognized and highly appreciated.
