On 09/8/2010, in Hanoi Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) coordinated with relevant agencies to organize the 5th Conference on Vietnam Research and Education Network (VinaREN).

Since 2009, VinaREN has implemented some activities as organizing Telemedicine sessions (distant surgery, gastro-copy surgery, image diagnosis) at international scale, learning via network, presenting thesis outline and thesis via network; establishing centers for computer connected with networks, participating in the global calculation network system; serving for weather forecast and natural disaster warning, domestic hydro meteorological organizations connect and download data from Hydro-meteorology Data Centers of the United States, Canada and the Asia – Pacific region to process and forecast about Vietnam’s weather.

Mr. Cao Minh Kiểm – Deputy Director of NASATI said that VinaREN has currently had 55 member networks including research institutes, leading universities, some hospitals and large information centers in 11 provinces and cities nationwide. As a result, Vietnam’s scientist communities could exchange and cooperate with more than 40 millions scientists in more than 4,000 leading universities and laboratories in the world. VinaREN has currently promoted strongly and efficiently the wide access, sharing and use of sources of abundant and practical electronic information for research, education, production and business in the country.

For the coming time VinaREN will support the development of technology transactions, disseminate information technology of fields to regions via online Techmart and Video–conferencing and promote online technology transactions with other countries in the world; support small and medium enterprises to look for appropriate technology, renovate technology, develop production, improve the competitiveness and production quality.

This Conference was aimed at reviewing activities of VinaREN in 2009, defining key tasks in 2010, focusing on discussions about issues relating to strengthening effective and sustainable exploitation and use of VinaREN in member agencies and activities of VinaREN within the cooperation framework with APAN and TEIN3.
