Minister Nguyen Quan met and worked with the US – ASEAN Business Council

On September 08, 2011, in Hanoi, Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Nguyen Quan met and worked with the delegation of the US – ASIAN Business Council (USABC) and member enterprise led by Mr. Alexander Feldman – USABC’s Chairman.

Participating in the working session, in MOST’s side were representatives from its functional agencies, in the US’s side were representatives from US Embassy in Vietnam, commercial counselor and companies as ACE Group, IBM, Intel, KPMG, DuPont, Ford, Google, GE, Microsoft, Oracle, Seagate, Westinghouse,… These are big companies in S&T fields, which have significant impacts on the US’s S&T development and hope to look for cooperation opportunities with MOST.

In the working session, Minister Nguyen Quan highly appreciated cooperation relations between Vietnam and US. The Minister said that the cooperation between the two countries have experienced good changes, especially Vietnam and the US normalized their relations and signed Vietnam – US Trade Agreement. The cooperation in all fields as well as in S&T has achieved many advances. Vietnam is integrating deeply in the international economy after becoming a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). However, Vietnam is still a developing country and some issues haven’t meet WTO’s requirements and standards. Therefore, Vietnam’s Government has taken a lot of efforts to overcome existing issues in its economy in order to integrate into the world.

Minister Nguyen Quan welcomed US’s big companies which have invested in Vietnam, brought in practical efficiency for Vietnam’s social and economic development. The Minister hoped for the coming time USABC would advise the US Government to promote more the economic cooperation as well as S&T cooperation for Vietnam.

Mr. Alexander Feldman, on behalf of the delegation, thanked the Minister for spending time to meet and discuss some issues of common interests. He affirmed that the US hoped to strengthen more cooperation relations with Vietnam’s Government and enterprise in social and economic fields in general and in S&T field in particular, contributing to promote cooperation relations between the two countries to develop more.

Also in the working session, some US enterprises understood, share cooperation opportunities in human resource training and S&T field in Vietnam as automobile industry development, atomic energy, use of S&T in agricultural development; education and training, information technology;…

Minister Nguyen Quan hoped that enterprises would continue investing in Vietnam’s education and training and S&T. The investment in Vietnam’s human resource development could be carried out through on-site training or through scholarship for Vietnam’s people,… Vietnam’s Government would create the most favorable conditions for US enterprises to cooperate with Vietnam in order to develop this field. The Minister believed that for the coming time cooperation relations between the two parties would be closer, contributing to the social and economic development of the two countries.
