The Workshop is the opportunity for researchers to renovate technologies, especially enterprises of the two countries would have better understanding on technology demands and abilities of each other and then they could make decisions on cooperation content for the coming time.

South Korea’s industry in general and its power industry in particular have experienced the importing process and gradually mastered technologies. Therefore South Korea has had a lot of precious experience to share as well as support Vietnam with the process of technology use and renovation for the suitable development of Vietnam’s power industry.

In the Workshop, KOSPO has signed the Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SATI and PV-Power. The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology believed that the signing of the MOU would create favorable conditions for KOSPO and PV Power to have important steps for the coming time in order to promote the use and cooperation on technology transfer, in which the first and foremost step is to focus on using new technologies in repair and maintenance of hydro-electricity plants. Through the MOU with SATI, the two parties would together support to train high-quality S&T human resource, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s power industry.

Together with the strong development of the economy, power demands in Vietnam also increased with the average rate of about 14.5% for the 2001 – 2010 period. In the Master plan on the National Electricity System Development for the 2011 – 2020 and Vision by 2030 approved by the Prime Minister, the power demands would continue increasing with high speed and be estimated to increase 14% for the 2011 - 2015 and 11.3% for the later stage.

In order to meet the increasing demands, Vietnam’s power industry has made efforts to develop new power plants as well as expand the power transmission and distribution system. It is estimated that for the development period from 2011 - 2030, Vietnam would need to invest more than USD 130 billion for the whole power system, in which the special attention would be paid to issues of renovating technologies, accessing, using and mastering modern technologies.

With the international integration in terms of S&T, research organizations as well as enterprises working in the power industry in Vietnam have taken efforts to look for potential counterparts in the world to promote cooperation in technology use and transfer in various forms. Vietnam’s Government has always encouraged and created favorable conditions for cooperation in technology research, renovations and master of domestic enterprises with advanced international counterparts to move towards the objective of sustainable energy development based on advanced technology.

On behalf of MOST’s leaders, Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh highly appreciated VISTIP’s efforts in identifying adequately domestic demands and at the same time finding one of experienced counterparts as KOSPO to act as the bridge in the field of repairing and maintaining power plants. This is the field Vietnam needs research, access and gradually master of foreign technologies.

In May, with VISTIP’s support, KOSPO conducted surveys at power plants in Nhơn Trạch - Đồng Nai, Ninh Bình, Thái Bình, Cẩm Phả, Quảng Ninh. After a period of studying and doing research, KOSPO together with VISTIP organized the International workshop on improving capacities and using foreign technologies for domestic plants and signed the Cooperation Agreement.
