In the opening speech, WIPO’s General Director Francis Gury emphasized that technology innovation has been the focus of better economic growth and job creation, and the key to improve the competitiveness of economics, industries and enterprises.
GII 2011 report has ranked 125 countries and economics based on capacities and results of technology innovation. Switzerland is ranked the first in the Ranking List (3 steps higher than last year), following are Sweden and Singapore. Among the top 10 countries in the Ranking List of GII 2011 are 6 representatives of Europe, 2 of Asia and 2 of North America. Specifically, the order of these 10 countries is as follows: Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong(China), Finland, Denmark, the US, Canada, Holland, the UK.
Vietnam is ranked the 51st in the Ranking List of GII this year, 20 steps higher as compared with the 71st rank in 2010. The ranking of some ASEAN countries is that Malaysia (31), Thailand(48), Brunei (75), Philippines (91), Indonesia (99), Cambodia (111).
