On 03/06/2009, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan had a meeting with Mr. Piter Hoij – the Director of South Australia University.

In the meeting, the Deputy Minister has said, Vietnam currently has about 1,400 S&T organizations (including 50% of public organizations) and 20 S&T programs have been implemented at the State level. Leaders of these organizations and chairmen of these programs have most been trained in former Soviet Union, socialist republic countries in Eastern Europe (in the past) and Vietnam, therefore Vietnam really wants to strengthen cooperation with developed countries in general and South Australia University in improving the quality and efficiency of S&T activities and management. The two parties can cooperate in two forms: in-country training with support from experts of South Australia University via computer network (Vinaren network) and survey and study visits in Australian universities and research institutes. The Deputy Minister has also proposed Mr. Piter Hoij, with his reputation and prestige, to have active influence on the Australian Government so that the Vietnam – Australia Agreement on S&T Cooperation will be signed soon.

Mr. Piter Hoij has affirmed that South Australia University is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in training on building capacity for leaders of S&T organizations. He has also proposed the draft cooperation framework with two main parts: Training courses (to make decisions in technology management, research methodology, project planning and implementation, technology renovation and principles of research and development management ); conferences, study visits to learn experience and surveys.
