Activities of Vietnamese delegation in the 54th IAEA General Assembly

Vietnam’s delegation led by Dr. Lê Đình Tiến – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MOST). Participating in the Delegation were Vietnamese Ambassador to IAEA Nguyễn Bá Sơn; Dr. Ngô Đặng Nhân – Director of Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS); Master Lê Doãn Phác – Deputy Director of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC); Dr. Bùi Văn Tuấn – Deputy Director of VAEC; representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of Government and some staff of VARANS and VAEC.

At 11.00 on the same day took place the Signing ceremony of the Agreement between French Agency for Nuclear Safety (ASN) and VARANS to exchange technical and cooperation information in the field of radiation and nuclear safety management between ASN’s President André-Claude Lacoste and Director of VARANS Dr. Ngô Đặng Nhân – with the witness of Deputy Minister Lê Đình Tiến. The signing of this Cooperation Agreement is the basis to promote the cooperation between the two regulating agencies, at the same time open opportunities for VARANS to share information and learn ASN’s experience in the field of radiation and nuclear safety, as well as strengthen human resource for VARANS.

Also in 20/9/2010 took place the 10th Anniversary of International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO). IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano along with speakers from member states attended and made speeches on achievements of INPRO during the last 10 years.

The Delegation also took this chance to meet with other delegates and discuss on issues relating to the atomic energy cooperation.

According to the conference schedule, Vice Minister Le Dinh Tien would make a speech on September 23, 2010, have meetings and discussions with delegations from USA, France, China and IAEA senior officials. During the period of the General Assembly from 20 to 24 September 2010, Vietnam Delegation would also attend meetings with Department of Nuclear Security, Department of Technical Cooperation, have negotiation meetings on Vietnam-Japan Agreement and participate in the Regulatory Forum.
