On 21/12/2009, the Management Board of Hoa Lac High Technology Zone – MOST coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) and Vietnam Institute for Science and Technology and some domestic and international companies organized the...

Participating in the Conference were leading professors and experts from research institutes and enterprises on new energies of Vietnam and some other countries as the US, South Korea

According to the participants’ assessment, Vietnam’s demands of using energy has been quickly increased, the energy supply faced with a lot of issues and challenges, especially gradual exhaustion of domestic fossil fuels, high oil price …Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce said that Vietnam’s energy consumption for the 1990 – 2004 period was quickly increased from 4.21 million of tones in 1990 to 11.55 million of tones in 2000 and 19.55 million of tones in 2004. The average growth of this period was 11.77% / year. Therefore, Vietnam will possibly become the net energy importer from 2015.

Therefore, reviewing and exploring recycled energy/clean energy sources have important meanings in terms of economic, social, energy security and sustainable development aspects. The development of recycled energy will diversify energy supply sources, save energy, reduce prices of products, ensure energy security and protect the environment, contribute to reduce the climate change. Moreover, in Vietnam this energy source is rather abundant.

In the Conference, the participants have listened to presentations of many institutes and enterprises on technology of silicic shapeless solar cell, organic solar cell, potentials and solutions of geothermic energy exploration in Vietnam …Especially, Cenergy Power Company, one of the US’s leading energy companies has worked out plans on transferring solar energy technology into Vietnam, improving Vietnam’s capacities and human resources and making Vietnam to become the leading country in ASEAN region in terms of resources and solar energy projects.

To achieve national objectives of developing and promoting recycled energy sources, MIC has been coordinating with relevant Ministries and branches to develop and complete the legal framework, create favorable conditions, support and promote activities of investors in the energy field in general and recycle energy field in particular. In 2009, MIC has submitted to the Prime Minister the Draft Master plan on New and Recycled Energy Development of Vietnam by 2015 and Draft Decree on promoting and supporting the development of recycled energy.

Regarding MOST, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Lang has affirmed that “MOST will propose research programs and themes in energy field to contribute conclusions, scientific basis, rationales for this field. The Ministry will also create favorable conditions for scientists and enterprises to participate in doing research and implementing technology achievements of Vietnam or the world in terms of recycled energy.”

This Conference is also the opportunity for organizations, enterprise and scientists of Vietnam and foreign countries to share experience in development, policies and measures to promote cooperation, investment and use of recycled energy in Vietnam.
