The President of the International Committee of Legal Metrology visited and worked with the Ministry of Science and Technology

On 25/3/2009, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Van Lang had a cordial meeting with Mr. Alan Johnston, the President of the International Committee of Legal Metrology- CIML under the International Organization of Legal Metrology- OIML...

OIML is an inter-governmental organization which has the role to promote the global harmonization in procedures and orders of legal metrology. OIML provides member countries publications of B (Basic Publications), D (Documents), R (Recommendations), V (Vocabularies), G (Guides), E (Expert Reports), S (Seminar Reports), which provide guidelines for compiling national and regional requirements relating to legal metrology. So far 114 economies have participated in OIML, among which 59 countries are official members and 56 countries are press members. Vietnam has been the official member since 2004.

In the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Lang has highly appreciated Mr. Alan’s supports to provide documents and share Canadian experience in the development and implementation of regulations on metrology. The Deputy Minister expressed desires that MC and Mr. Alan himself would support Vietnam more with consultancy on the development of Law on Metrology. At the same time, the Deputy Minister also expressed desires to have more thorough cooperation in the field of legal metrology between Canada’s MC and Vietnam’s STAMEQ as well as supports for Vietnam in OIML.

Also in the afternoon of 25/3/2009, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality Mr. Trần Văn Vinh met wit Mr. Alan at the Directorate’s Office. Mr. Alan has shared his opinions on legal metrology, scientific metrology and industrial metrology and especially emphasized roles of legal metrology in the protection of consumers’ rights. Mr. Alan has paid a visit to laboratories of the Metrology Center and highly appreciated the enthisiasm and commitment of Vietnam’s metrological staff to their work. On 27/3, he would pay a visit to testing rooms of the Technical Center No 3 in Bien Hoa.
