Discuss with IAEA experts on siting safety for nuclear power plant installation

On May 6, 2009, at the Headquarters of Viet Nam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS), the General Director Ngo Dang Nhan chaired a meeting with IAEA experts on suggestions for the Draft of the Circular on siting safety guide for nuclear...

The representatives of IAEA in the meeting were Mr. A.Guerpinar and Mr. K.H.Lehmann – two experts very experienced in site evaluation and siting for nuclear power plant installation. Participating the meeting on the site of Vietnam were VARANS Deputy General Director Le Chi Dung, Vice Chaiman of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC) Le Van Hong, Vice Director of Nuclear Research Institute (NRI) Pham Van Lam and relevant staffs from Varans, VAEC, NRI and the Electricity of Vietnam
After presentation on the Draft of the Circular by VARANS Deputy General Director Le Chi Dung, IAEA experts together with Vietnamese staffs discussed on main points of the Draft, especially on technical criteria of the site for nuclear power plant installation. Some suggestions of IAEA experts are very important in improving the Draft to issue timely and support for evaluation of the investment report of nuclear power plant project.
At the end of the meeting, the Varans General Director Ngo Dang Nhan acknowledged the effective help of Mr. Guepinar and Mr. Lehmann and hoped to receive their assistance in the future to support the State Regulatory Authority on nuclear safety in regulated documents for the purpose of ensuring nuclear safety in siting for nuclear power plant installation.
