From March 02 to 04, 2011, Hanoi National University, representing Vietnam co-hosted the 2nd Asian International Conference on Sustainable Science (ICSS-Asia 2011) in coordination with Tokyo University (Japan).

The Conference gathered more than 100 scientists, politicians, experts from countries in Asia and the world, who focused their discussions on issues relating to climate changes, sustainable development in urban and rural areas, environment protection, training for high-level human resource on sustainable science… This was an opportunity for Vietnamese scientists to share, exchange knowledge and experience; at the same time create bridges among training and research units with international organizations in the field of sustainable development.

According to Professor, Doctor Vũ Minh Giang – Deputy Director of Hanoi National University, sustainable science has been a new science field not only in Vietnam but also in the world, and it is not only new for a normal person but also for researchers. Human beings is a part of the nature, during his development process, he has seriously destroyed the nature, as a result he is being suffered from his actions. This is the time to have new scientific knowledge to understand the nature of sustainability, leading causes, destroying factors, strengthen solutions … Sustainable science has been initiated with purposes of studying the development process with all relating factors of this situation. Mr. Giang affirmed that Vietnam has had significant demands on strengthening the sustainability, stabilizing the politic – social aspects; sustainable science has be a necessary field to help Vietnam improve its awareness to develop.
