Minister Nguyen Quan met with Japan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry

On October 10, 2011, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan had a meeting and working session with Mr. Tadahiro MATSHUSHITA- Japan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

In the working session, the two parties focused on discussing about cooperation in fields of atomic energy, rare soil, and cosmographical development. Mr. Tadahiro MATSHUSHITA introduced briefly about the situation of overcoming Fukushima incident as well as Japan’s new policies on nuclear after this incident; informed about the implementation of projects on exploring and processing rare soil of Japan; affirmed Japan’s determination in the project on building the Cosmography Center and considered this as the symbol for the friendship cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

Minister Nguyen Quan expressed his thanks for information provided by Mr. Tadahiro MATSHUSHITA and affirmed regarding the project on nuclear power plant, MOST in general and the Minister himself in particular (as the Chairman of the National Commission for Nuclear Safety) would cooperate closely with Japan so that the project would be successful with the highest safety and efficiency. Regarding the project on rare soil, MOST has assigned the Institute for Rare Radiations to coordinate with Japan, the Minister proposed that the project should pay special attention to environmental protection. Regarding the Project on Cosmography Center, Minister said that Vietnam has allocated land for construction in Hoa Lac High Tech Park so that it is basically convenient for the implementation.

The two parties would soon agree on cooperation activities with the spirits, which would be specified in official documents at the ministerial level (expected to take place early November).
