Vietnam – Laos to continue cooperation in training for S&T staff

The main objective of the mission was to review the implementation status of the cooperation plan according to Protocol on “Providing updated knowledge for S&T managers of the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos for the 2010- 2011 period”. According to the Cooperation Agreement, MTI has developed the program framework, compiled themed lecturers and organized 04 training courses in Hanoi and Vientiane for 99 staff selected from Laos’s MOST and department of Science and Technology of some provinces/cities.

In working sessions, the two parties discussed in an open and frank manner about each cooperation item and both affirmed that objectives of the bilateral cooperation plan for the 2010- 2011 period have been basically achieved. Directions and detailed plans on cooperation between the two parties for the coming time have been discussed with many important items as continuing training to improve management capacities for Laos’ S&T managers; training, fostering officials at department level of Laos’ MOST; training for Laos’ trainers; MTI supports to develop the proposal on establishing the Center for training S&T officials in Laos;

During its stay in Laos, the delegation visited fields and worked with the Department of Science and Technology of Luang Prabang province. In the working session, the two parties exchanged and discussed about issues and cooperation prospects for the coming time. Mr. Vu Van Khiem – MTI’s Director also suggested possible cooperation directions in order to support Luang Prabang province to cut short of time for acquiring knowledge and experience for staff.

Within the framework of the visit and working time in Laos, the MTI’s delegation was cordially welcomed by Laos’ Minister of Science and Technology, Professor, Doctor Boviengkham VONGDARA. The Minister expressed his thanks for Vietnam’s delegation to visit and work in Laos. The Minister highly appreciated cooperation results during the past time between the two parties, especially the fact that MTI supported to training S&T managers for Laos. Minister Boviengkham hoped that cooperative relations between the two parties would be closer and more efficient.

Assistant Professor, Doctor Vu Van Khiem – MTI’s Director thanked the Minister for spending time for cordial welcome and paying special attention to Vietnam’s delegation. Director Vu Van Khiem also informed Minister Boviengkham of working results with the office of Laos’ MOST and affirmed to make his most efforts, through specific cooperation plants, in order to contribute for Laos’ S&T development.
