Director of Asia – Pacific Department of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission visited and worked with the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality

Participating in the meeting were representatives from Department of Conformity Assessment, Vietnam Certification Center (QUACERT), Quality Assurance and Testing Center 1 (QUATEST 1), Department of Goods Quality Management.

The purpose of Mr. Jeffrey Hilsgen’s visit was to introduce briefly about the Asian – Pacific representative office of CPSC in Beijing, China and summarize some laws and new initiatives introduced by CPSC.

In the meeting, Director Ngô Quý Việt highly appreciated CPSC’s cooperation and supports over the past time as well as results achieved from the Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 2007 and hoped that CPSC would continue supporting and recognizing Quality Assurance and Testing Center 1 (QUATEST 1 in Hanoi) and Quality Assurance and Testing Center 2 (QUATEST 2 in Danang) as CPSC’s next conformity assessment organizations in Vietnam.

Also in Mr. Jeffrey Hilsgen’s visit, representatives of relating agencies in the Directorate also made some proposals to CPSC as strengthening exchanges of detailed information to warn about quality, advising on equipment to quickly test products and goods circulated in markets, strengthening training for Vietnam’s experts, especially direct training...

Currently Quality Assurance and Testing Center 3 (QUATEST 3) has been introduced in the list of CPSC-certified testing laboratories. QUATEST 3 is a State-owned testing organization certified by CPSC in the field of testing to assess the conformity of products used for children within the scope of Law 16 CFR: Part 1303 – lead in paint and covering materials; Part 1501 – artificial nipples and Part 1511 – small parts.

CPSC is an international agency at federal level, which was established in 1973 with functions on Consumer Product State of the US Government. CPSC has 03 Commission Members appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. CPSC covers the management scope on safety for 15,000 types of products (http://www.cpsc.gov/.)
