Vietnam and Denmark signed the agreement on continuing the Program on Research Cooperation

On 09/3/2011, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Trần Việt Thanh together with Danish Ambassador John Nielsen signed the agreement on extending the Program on research cooperation between Vietnam and Demark 3 years more from 2011 to 2013.

The new period of the research program will continue focusing in topics of S&T use to do research on climate change, especially S&T use to minimize negative effects of climate change on Vietnam. Climate change response is one of development aids focuses of Danish Government. Meanwhile, Vietnam is known as of one the most affected country by climate change. In this Program on Research Cooperation, Vietnamese scientists will chair projects and actively select Danish partners to cooperate based on prioritized topics in the country.

In the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh highly appreciated Denmark’s supports in the research field in Vietnam. The Deputy Minister also believed that the new period of the program would bring in many cooperation opportunities for researches of the two countries and results of the cooperation would be used in the future.

Danish Ambassador John Nielsen expressed his pleasures with achieved results of the program, at the same time emphasized that continuing the program once again affirmed the close cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark.

The total committed aids for the new period will be 45 million Danish Krone (equivalent to about USD 8 million). Therefore, with the funding budget in 2011 is 15 million Danish Krone (equivalent to USD 2.7 million) there is maximum of 3 projects to be selected. Research projects are focused on main objectives of applying modern and advanced scientific research methodologies in the work to carry out research on topics relating to climate change; research to find technology solutions to contribute to minimizing impacts of climate change on Vietnam; strengthening training content, improving capacities of staff on climate change to Vietnam; contributing a certain part in improving research infrastructure for some domestic S&T organizations; through the fact that independent experts carry out reviews on project proposals for Vietnam’s S&T staff to develop the research roadmap of Vietnamese researchers gradually to international levels.
