This is the first Conference on Research Cooperation between Vietnam and the US, which has marked the new progress in the S&T cooperation relationships between the two countries. The purpose of this Conference was aimed at creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese scientists and researchers to have opportunities of meeting with US partners and looking for cooperation possibilities of implementing together projects of common research fields, especially the field of basic research. Making a speech at the Conference, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Thang expressed his happiness when meeting with the Ambassador, US scientists and hoped through this Conference; scientists of the two countries can share experience as well as ideas and directions for the future S&T development. On behalf of MOST, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Thang also committed to create favorable conditions for this cooperation to be of the highest efficiency.

Mr. Michael W. Michalak has highly appreciated this Conference, which is the evidence of more closed S&T cooperation between the two countries with encouraging results. Cooperation activities between S&T communities of the two countries have been increased in terms of the quantity and quality. Cooperation projects have consisted of not only information exchange, study tours and surveys but also been strengthened with activities of research, training, technology transfer, technology demonstration and necessary equipment provision.

S&T cooperation with the US, the world S&T center has important meaning for Vietnam’s strategies for S&T development and international integration. The Conference took place in an interesting and open atmosphere with good results. The success of the Conference would actively contribute and promote the S&T cooperation development between the two countries.
