Working with IAEA experts on nuclear security cooperation

IAEA delegation included Mr. Ikonomou Pantelis, Head of Project 3, IAEA Office of Nuclear Security and Mr. Mikhal Mayorov – IAEA expert. Participants from Vietnam are VARANS relevant staff and representatives of Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Science and Technology and General Department of Customs.

Dr. Ngo Dang Nhan presented Vietnam regulatory infrastructure in the field of nuclear security. He stressed that in the Vietnam strategy for peaceful use of atomic energy up to 2020 including the increasing application of radiation in the medical field, industry, research-education and other; and introduction of nuclear power in Vietnam; ensuring radiation safety and nuclear security is a necessary and priority issue.

IAEA experts also specifically introduced about Project purpose, activities and steps. Mr. Ikonomou Pantelis said Project activities focus on border monitoring equipment at selected border crossings, training provided for law enforcement staff and support on national response plan.

During this framework, IAEA experts will visit two border sites, Haiphong port and Noibai airport.
