To narrow down “gaps” among research institutes and universities, EC has supported Asian countries to link with European ones through Trans – European Information Network (TEIN) with the annual budget of up to Euro 14 million. During the Stage II (TEIN2),Vietnam is one of the five Asian countries which are benefited from EC’s sponsor with the budget equivalent to 80% of leasing fees for Hanoi – Hongkong international transmission line (about VND 21 billion). In April, 2006, MOST approved and sponsored TEIN2-VN project on developing the National Research and Education Network (VinaREN).
